Cooling Refrigerants of the Future. An air conditioner or heat pump counts on its refrigerant to cool and dehumidify the air before it’s circulated around your home. This liquid is found within the coils of your cooling system, but one of the most common refrigerants used for many, many years – the R-22 (Freon) is now being replaced in response to environmental concerns. In fact, this phase-out was mandated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through the Clean Air Act. Production of R-22 will cease by 2020. Introducing R-410A Recognized by the EPA, R-410A is a chlorine-free and ozone-friendly refrigerant. This means it will cool your home without harming the environment. Additionally, Lennox’s most highly efficient systems are engineered to use this AC refrigerant, which can help your system function efficiently. The same Lennox systems are known for reliability, quiet operation and better dehumidification, so you’ll stay comfortable. Additional Considerations At Woody's Sudden Service Inc in Manassas Park, our cooling models can work with R-410A. If you have a system that was made prior to 2010, you may want to consider replacing your cooling system now, before R-22 is hard to find. Some manufacturers sell alternate refrigerants such as R-407C, R-438A and R-422, however, they may not work with an R-22 AC or heat pump and could compromise your system’s performance.
